You can cancel your IELTS test registration at any time before taking your test by notifying your Test Centre. Refund terms depend upon when you cancel and whether exceptional circumstances apply.
If you cannot attend your test, or are disadvantaged on the test day, because of illness, injury or another exceptional event outside your control, you can apply to the test centre for special consideration. You can apply before the test and up to two calendar days after the test date. Applications are not accepted after results have been released. Complete the Request for Refund or Test Date Transfer Form and give full information on why you qualify, with supporting evidence. If you are not sure what evidence to provide, please contact us. The test centre will respond within seven working days of receiving your full application in writing. Your results are on hold until a decision is made.
Refunds – Refund amounts follow our Cancellations & Transfers policy: 75% of the test fee paid if you cancel 15 or more days before the test, and no refund within 14 days of the test. If you cannot attend because of illness, injury, bereavement or another exceptional event outside your control, you can apply for special consideration using this form. The Administrator will advise within seven working days of lodging the application whether the request has been approved.
Transfers – You can transfer your test date to a later date, subject to availability. A transfer requested 15 or more days before the test is free. Between 5 and 14 days before the test, an administrative fee of up to 25% of the test fee paid applies. Within 4 days of the test, transfers are not allowed and the request is treated as a cancellation. You cannot transfer to another test format, another module, another person or another test centre.
IELTS on Computer candidates can transfer online through their Test Taker Portal, to a future date within 90 days of the original test date. Other requests (for example One Skill Retake bookings, or requests that need supporting documents) use the Refund/Test Date Transfer Form.
Fees:
Transfer fee: free 15 or more days before the test; an administrative fee of up to 25% of the test fee paid 5 to 14 days before the test; no transfer within 4 days of the test.
VCS fee: $75 or more (as applicable)
